UV dosimeter is a professional instrument used to detect the UVGI light intensity and dose of UV germicidal lamp, which can be used for the regular inspection of UV germicidal lamp. This article will mainly introduce three types of UV dosimeters, one for detecting UVC low-pressure mercury lamps, one for detecting UVC LED light sources and the last one for users with both measurement needs.

I. What's the Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI)?

Ultraviolet radiation germicidal irradiation (UVGI) is a pollution-free sterilization method. It uses ultraviolet germicidal lamps to emit short-wavelength ultraviolet UV-C to kill or inactivate the DNA or RNA of microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses and molds, to prevent the reproduction or self-replication of microorganisms.

II. Factors affecting the sterilization effect of ultraviolet germicidal irradiation

1. UVGI light intensity

The sterilization effect of UVGI is related to the UVGI light intensity of UV germicidal lamp. The unit of UVGI light intensity is μW / cm² and mW / cm², which represents the intensity of ultraviolet radiation (power) per unit area. Too low UVGI light intensity may temporarily inactivate microorganisms and not completely inactivate them. The UV dosimeter can be used to detect the UVGI light intensity and ensure the sterilization effect.

2. UV dose

The sterilization effect of UVGI is also related to the UV dose The UV dose is equal to the intensity of irradiation on the object surface multiplied by the duration of irradiation, in units of μWs / cm² and mWs / cm². For different microorganisms, the UV dose required to completely kill them is not exactly the same. After confirming the UV dose, the length of time required for irradiation can be calculated according to the UVGI light intensity. If the duration of irradiation is insufficient, the sterilization effect will be greatly reduced.

As the ultraviolet germicidal lamp will age with use, the UVGI light intensity will also decrease. Once the UVGI light intensity is lower than the minimum standard for killing microorganisms, or the UVGI light intensity is reduced without extending the irradiation time, it will affect the sterilization effect. Therefore, when using an UV germicidal lamp for sterilization, a professional UV dosimeter should be used to ensure the UVGI light intensity and UV irradiation dose of the UV germicidal lamp.

III. UV dosimeter for measuring the UVGI light intensity and UV dose

At present, germicidal lamps on the market mainly include: low-pressure mercury lamps and LED germicidal lamps. The peak wavelength of ultraviolet light emitted by low-pressure mercury lamps is 253.7nm. LED germicidal lamps are currently available in a variety of types. .

Linshang LS125 is an UV dosimeter host that can intelligently match 9 probes. Users can choose the appropriate probe according to the testing needs. For the two different types of germicidal lamps, the following mainly introduces how to select a suitable probe that you want.

1. Measuring UVC low-pressure mercury lamp

Compared with the traditional sterilization method, the UVGI is more green and environmentally friendly. Recently, due to the impact of the new corona virus, all industries and industries have come into contact with the concept of ultraviolet radiation sterilization. We hope this article can help users quickly understand and choose a suitable UV dosimeter used for the regular inspection of germicidal lamps.
